Rachel school bathrooms

Bathrooms

When we use the bathroom we expect them to be clean. No one likes to use a dirty or unclean bathroom. Schools should make sure that bathrooms in school are above student's cleanliness standards. Poor bathroom hygiene can present a health risk to all students. The school has a reputation of being healthy and clean for the children’s’ sake. When dirty, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and germs that spread illness. (http://safety.com/articles/bathrooms-germfree-and-healthy.html) If there was an illness around the school that was happening because of the bathrooms, then the school would be cleaning the bathrooms thoroughly. What if there was not an illness? Would they be cleaning the bathrooms as thoroughly? No students like to use a restroom that is filthy or is not stocked with supplies. According to 1998 and 1999 surveys of Hawaii secondary students 92% of students said that their school restrooms were not clean, 84% of students said that their school restrooms were not adequately stocked with toilet paper, 92% of students said that their school restrooms were not adequately stocked with hand soap, 90% of students said that their school restroom stall doors did not work or were nonexistent, 90% of students said that their school restrooms were grossly lacking in cleanliness and sanitary materials, and 93% of female students said that their school restrooms were not equipped with receptacles to dispose of feminine hygiene products.(http://www.capitol.Hawaii.gov/session2001/Bills/SB127_SD2_.html) Most of kids who actually use the bathrooms, have an opinion about this. Even people from my own school have this similar opinion.Francis C. Hammond restrooms do not have hot water and 46% of students say that there is always no soap in the dispenser. How gross is that? We are not being able to use soap!!!! Hand-washing is a simple and effective way to help prevent diseases, such as colds, flu, and food poisoning. We wash our hands a lot. We should wash our hands after eating or snacking, touching your ears, nose, or mouth, and after using the restroom. It is better, when washing your hands, to use warm or hot water because cold water is not as effective for killing bacteria on your hands. (http://health.yahoo.com/topic/flu/resources/article/healthwise/tv7076) When there is no hot water coming out of the faucet, then our hands will still be covered with bacteria. Many students care that they are using restrooms that are not clean. These restrooms definitely need to be cleaned. Students also have to make sure they keep it clean too. This is a very serious problem throughout schools.
